The quota reform demonstrators have called off their protest for today following the prime minister’s announcement to revoke all types of quota privilege in government jobs.
They will announce their further decision on their movement tomorrow after scrutinizing of the prime minister’s announcement made in the parliament today.
At around 6:30 pm the Students' Rights Protection Council’s convener Hasan Al Mamun said the premier’s announcement of abolishing quota was not properly clear to them.
They would discuss and decide the next course of their movement and then hold a press conference at Dhaka University Library around 10:00 am on Thursday, he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday evening announced that there will be no quota system in government services from now during the question-answer session in Parliament amid strong protests by jobseekers and university students across the country against the quota system.
After the convener’s declaration, the protesting students left the campus.
